The Fort Union Ranch, which surrounds the Fort Union National Monument, is on Interstate 25 in northeastern New Mexico, about 300 miles south of Denver, Colorado, and 150 miles northeast of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Las Vegas, New Mexico, is about 30 miles from the Marshall House and is the closest community with groceries, gasoline, hospital, and other services. Santa Fe is 60 miles west of Las Vegas. Taos is 80 miles northwest of the ranch.
The ranch is within driving distance of many historical small northeastern New Mexico towns worthy of exploration. The Fort Union ranch does not arrange for any off-site activities but the staff is happy to provide suggestions and guidance with any travel beyond the ranch. There is also a binder at the Marshall House with our favorite places to eat, shop, or stay and our favorite things to do in the surrounding area. Many of the nearby towns host rodeos or festivals throughout the summer and the local chamber of commerce is a great place to start planning your visit.
